Improving Health with Positive Affirmations
June 12, 2008
We all desire to be in good health and enjoy life. Often we take health for granted and only when we are not feeling well start to pay attention to our bodies and causes of ailments. It is much easier to prevent illnesses than to treat them.
Medical research has recognized a direct link between stress and many illnesses. Stress is a chronic state of toxic feelings, such as fear, anger, anxiety, guilt or self-hate. Harboring these feelings over long time will not only make you miserable but they can make you sick too.
During the times we are stressed the body releases hormones adrenalin and cortisol, which instantly increase the heart rate and thicken the blood. They also redirect the blood away from the stomach and extremities. The body is working harder than it has to and over time it will break down and become ill. Stress weakens the body immune function and makes it more susceptible to common colds, flu and tumors.
Stress is a risk factor for many ailments and the most common are heart disease, high blood pressure, adult onset diabetes, stroke, depression and cancer.
Are You Stressed?
· Have you become more irritable and less patient with your family, friends and co-workers?
· Do you lack the energy for work?
· Do you find yourself being more critical and sarcastic?
· Have you lost the ability to experience joy?
· Do you find it difficult to get up in the morning?
· Do you no longer feel joy and satisfaction from being with family or friends?
· Are you using food, drugs or alcohol-to feel better or to dumb your feelings?
If the answer to most of these questions is positive, you are stressed and your health might be at risk. You might be stressed because of marital problems, money worries, or work pressures. Whatever the reasons, you will not able to control the outside sources of stress but you can change your own attitude.
How Maintain Good Health and Reduce Stress?
Positive Thinking and Affirmations
You can maintain good health and prevent diseases by controlling stress. If you build positive beliefs and release negative feelings, you will be less susceptible to stress. For example, if you expected a promotion at work and you did not get it, you might choose to feel disappointed, angry or victimized. Any of these responses will create more stress and endanger your health. If you have a positive outlook you can treat this event as an opportunity to learn and grow.
