WHAT TYPE OF PERSON IS BEST SUITED FOR A HOME BASED BUSINESS?
1. SELF MOTIVATED
There’s no one telling you what to do and when to do it. It’s up to you. For a better understanding of motivation read my page on motivation. It’s very easy to get distracted by the telephone and friends who want to stop by and see you. If you’re married or have children at home, they’ll also need your attention. It’s important to establish a consistent schedule of uninterrupted time to work on your business. You’ll only get out of it what you put into it.
2. PASSIONATE
If your going to succeed, find something you’re very interested in. A good place to start is to consider how you spend your free time. What are your interests? Do you have any hobbies? What are you most passionate about? What do you do well? Is there anything you’ve dreamed about doing? The nice thing about being in your own business, is you can take what you love doing and do more of it while earning a living. If you’re doing what you love, it’s difficult to fail.
3. COMMITTED
You have to be committed to make your business work. It all starts with who you are, what your mission in life is, what you want to accomplish and why. Your business has to come from within yourself. Do it for the right reasons. Ask yourself why you want to commit to this type of business? The stronger your reason, the harder you’ll work at it. If someone held your head under water, how hard would you fight to get a breath of air? That’s how bad you have to want to succeed. You have to have a stronger reason to succeed than to fail.
4. SELF CONFIDENT
You’ll have to wear many hats to run your business. Accounting, book keeping, sales, marketing and being the best you can in your field, are just some of the things required of you. You’ll be learning and doing things you’ve never done before. You’ll have to apply yourself in areas you may not feel comfortable in. Going out of your comfort zone will be common place. Don’t let that scar you, you’ll be learning and growing with your business. It’s important to believe in yourself and be confident even when your not. Read my page on self confidence.
5. DISCIPLINED
Doing a little work today and then some in a few days won’t cut it. You’ll need to work a little or a lot each day to accomplish your goals. Put yourself on a schedule and stick to it. Stay focused and don’t give up. Consistent effort is the key. There will be many challenges and obstacles along the way and it’ll be up to you to stay disciplined to find out what works and doing it over and over again until you reach your goals. I found writing a things to do list every morning helps me stay on tract and accomplish what needs to be done each day. Don’t forget to take some time off. It’s healthy to get away from your business to freshen up and smell the roses.
6. IMAGINATION
Use your imagination to make your business unique and special. Your business is an extension of you. Be creative and find different ways to make your business a success. A good tool for success is visualization. Imagine yourself already succeeding before the fact. See yourself in your mind doing what it takes to run and building your business. Using all your senses to feel and see your success.
If owning and operating a business from your home is for you, get started as soon as possible. Take action by writing a simple business plan. It will serve as your blueprint to success. Make a plan and follow it. Set some goals (see my page on motivation about setting goals) and watch it all unfold. When you’re doing what you enjoy, it makes such a difference in your life. You’ll not only benefit in your pocketbook but even with your health and fitness.
